In the small town of Gateway, which is southwest of Grand Junction, is the only resort in the world that sits at the confluence of five canyons. Gateway Canyons Resort was started by John Hendricks, founder of the Discovery Channel. He was on his way to buy a ranch in New Mexico, but thanks to an ad in the Wall Street Journal, he made a stop to check out a ranch for sale in Gateway, which he bought in 1995. Read More…

Hendricks founded Discovery Communications because he loved learning stuff, and saw an opportunity in the early days of cable television to create a channel dedicated to nonfiction programming. Discovery is now a multibillion dollar, global enterprise, banging out new shows and new channels aimed at feeding our hunger to know more, and perhaps entertain us in the process. Read More…
